Who We Are
Sampson and Hool met in the Volta Region of Ghana while Hool was in Tafi Abuife, Sampson’s village, facilitating a community art project through a grant from the Rhode Island School of Design. Sampson, secretary of the local dancing and drumming group, asked Hool to paint their new drums, and the rest was history.
Their first son, Kafui, was named for the Ewe phrase “Praise Him.” Although he was born prematurely and sadly passed away, his name and life remain a part of their story.
Sampson and Hool began sharing their love of art and rhythm with schools and children in their community. Their work grew from a belief that life is precious, art is life, and anything is possible when hope, community, art, and drumming come together.
Now in Hool’s home state of Colorado, Hool and Sampson are raising their three children and sharing this passion with local youth. They believe in starting early, giving children a strong rhythmic foundation for learning, creativity, and connection rooted in drumming, movement, and the visual arts.
Kafui Drumming and Drawing is registered as a 501c3 organization equipped to work in schools, daycares, and community centers. Let us know how we can collaborate with your organization.
